Frequently Asked Questions
Can I upload my family tree if I export the file from my home PC?
Yes. The software we use supports import/export requests of the GEDCOM format, so you can export data from your existing family tree software, be it Internet-based or loaded on to your home P.C., for use on this website.
What is a GEDCOM file?
GEDCOM (GEnealogical Data COMmunication) is a specification for exchanging genealogical data between different genealogical systems. Developed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a GEDCOM file, written in plain text, contains genealogical information about individuals and data linking these records together. Most genealogy software manufacturers support import/export requests of the GEDCOM format.
Can I edit one of the historical projects even though I may be not be related?
