At school in Armidale, New South Wales, Australia, from 1870 until 1878, James Edward Mackenzie entered AIS Bank at Inverell on the 12th of April 1878. He transferred to Bundarra branch on the 23rd of April 1881 and transferred again to Armidale as a teller on the 6th of November 1882. After the railway opened in Armidale on the 1st of February 1883, the Cox family moved to the town and he soon met Sybil. He transferred to Glen Innes as an accountant in 1884. The railway to Glen Innes opened a year later, 1885. James went to Sydney on the 14th of September 1885 for a holiday and was transferred to head office on the 28th of June 1886. He then transferred to Brisbane as a teller on the 23rd of July 1886. James went on leave to Sydney on the 5th of October 1887 as his father was very ill there. His father died on the 26th of November and on the 21st of December he returned to Brisbane. On the 28th of March 1888, James transferred to Emmavlle as Manager and on the 28th of December 1889 moved to Deepwater. After marrying Sybil Maud Cox in 1890, he moved to Waleha. He moved to Dubbo in May 1897 and to Inverell in 1902. James retired in 1911 and bought Tullockland Station, Inverell. He bought Bonnie Gowan, Guyra, in September 1926. Sybil died on the 19th of November 1940. |
