Balcombe was a Grazier but then joined the army at the age of thirty. He worked in Intellegence and spent time at the following training camps, service schools and departments: IRTD Kabootra, He was promoted to Corporal in 1964, Sergeant in 1966 and WOII in 1974. Departing Sydney in January 1966, he went to Vietnam and returned in December the same year. He left Darwin for Hong Kong in January 1970 and returned to Adelaide in January 1971. Medals/Honours include: LS + GCM, Vietnam Medal and Vietnam War Medal. Married by Father G. J. Lyons in Rosalie Sacred Heart Church, he spent the first night of the honeymoon at Southport Hotel in Queensland. It's now the site of Sundale Shopping Centre. The best man was William Borthrone and the bridesmaids were Jill Hawker and P. E. Goddard. |
