Note	Notes Cokayne's "Complete Peerage" (Berkeley, p. 124). He completed thebuilding of Berkeley Castle, which had been started by his father. Hesuffered much in the wars between [the future king] STEPHEN and theEmpress MAUD, at the hands of Walter, son of MILES, EARL OF HEREFORD. He was deprived of the manor of Berkeley abt 1152, apparently forrefusing to recognise the authority of either party. KING HENRY II (RIN761) gave Berlely Castle to ROBERT FITZHARDING, who later married Roger'sdaughter, ALICE. Roger was made feudal lord of Dursley
