Notes Cokayne's "Complete Peerage" (Appendix D to v.VII, p.712). In 1098 heaided King William II (RIN 6983*) against his brother, Simon's castles atMontfort and Epernon. He succeeded his half brother also named Amaury,then two of his brothers of the whole blood, Richard and the alreadymentioned Simon, who all predeceased him. On the death, s.p., in 1118 ofhis maternal uncle, William, Count of Evreux, Amaury claimed that compte,and when KING HENRY I (RIN 789) denied him the inheritance, led awidespread revolt and obtained possession of Evreux. In the followingyear HENRY besieged Evreux, but his nephew, THEOBALD, COUNT OF CHAMPAIGNE(RIN 1640), reconciled him and Amaury, who surrendered the castle to KINGHENRY, and thereupon received his uncle's compte.
