"JOHANNES Friedrich Scholz was born on the 8th June, 1858 in Light Pass. Soon after his birth he was baptized in Light Pass by Pastor W. StaudeMeyer. When he was seven years old the family moved to Hoyleton where he attended school under teacher, August Rohde. After a course of instruction he was confirmed by Pastor J P Niquet at Hoyleton. After confirmation he tRained as a BlackSmith. In an accident he had the misfortune of breaKing a leg for which he had treatment for some years at the Willows Hospital. Here he became acquainted with his future bride to be. On the 27th September, 1883 he Married Pauline Serah Obst. The Marriage was performed by Pastor G J Rechner. The couple settled in Light Pass and joined "Strait Gate" congregation. He took employment as a BlackSmith with Weiser and Gobe in Neukirch. Later on he conducted his own BlackSmith in Nuriootpa. For a time he farmed with his sons on land he acquired at Kangaroo Island; at the same time Carrying on a Garden at Light Pass. The Marriage was blessed with eleven children; seven daughters and four sons. Three daughters and one son predeceased him. The couple was privileged to celebrate their golden Wedding. For fifty two years they were permitted to live together. It was a great loss for Johannes Friedrich when god called his faithful helpmate to himself on November 9th, 1937. Johannes F Scholz was a faithful member of his church which he served as a LayReader for forty years. He joyfully attended God's house and made faithful use of the means of grace. He was buried alongside his wife in the Light Pass "Strait Gate" cemetery."
