Note

Hermann EDUARD Scholz was born at Breslau, the capital of Silesia, on 21st March, 1842. He was the Youngest member of the family when they migrated to Australia in 1845.

He spent his childhood days at his parents home at Light Pass. He had the honour of being in hte last class confirmed by Pastor Kavel, the first Lutheran prastor to come to Australia, who arrived with the first band of Lutheran immiGrants in 1838.

In 1866 Hermann Eduard migrated to Jindera in N.S.W. with his parents and Younger members of his family.

In those early days when eligible females were rather scarce, it is said that the Kalms household at Jindera was a centre of unusual attraction, for there lived four Young ladies of Just the right age and quality, to put a throb into the heart of pining Young Bachelors. Whether the Scholz lads were particulary persuasive, or Just the right type, or Just staked an early claim, we Cannot tell, but two of them claimed Kalms girls as their wives.

On 22nd April, 1869, Hermann Eduard Married Amalie Pauline Kalms at Jindera. She had Been born at Blumberg, S.A. on 11th May, 1849.

He selected a property "Waterview" on the outskirts of Walla Walla where he spent the remainder of his life. In 1873 when he selected the original land it covered only 40 acres, but over the years it was extended to a size of 1200 acres.

Eduard worked the property until 1915, when it was taken over by his Youngest son, Joseph.

Like most of the Scholz'a Eduard was a lover of horses, and it is said that the first race meeting at Walla was held on his property. In later life he is said to have suffered from a heart complaint, and was warned by his doctor not to drive or ride a horse. However, he continued to do so and outlived by many years the doctor who gave him this warning.

His wife died on 29th October, 1907. On 10th February, 1910 he reMarried, his second wife being Karoline Eina Graumann (nee Yindera), a school teacher, the daughter of Jospeh Yindera and his wife Johanne Nespor, who had Been born at Staussey, about 1859. There were no children from this Marriage.

Periodically the whole family would gather at the parental home for a get-together when many a tall Story was told.

Eduard was a faithful and interested supporter of his church throughout his long life. He served as the chairman of the Committee of Management of the Walla congregation from 1898-1902 and again from 1907-1909.

He died at Walla Walla on 30th January, 1937, two months short of his 96th birthday.

His second wife had predeceased him on 19th January, 1936.

Eduard and both wives are buried at Walla Walla.

There were twelve children from his first Marriage, 10 sons and 2 daughters.
