arr per scindian left Portsmount on March 4, 1850 arr 1st June 1850 in Fremantle WA Reg no 17, Term 20yrs, Age 17, Sentenced at Worcester for House BreaKing. Serpentine Bridge Government School was replaced by a new building, completed in June, 1889, for a Price of (Quid)76.19.0 by Richard Tonkin and George Postans (Research):"George Postans was for a while a labourer and small farmer in the Murray District. Then he worked as a brickLayer and returning with his family to the metropolitan area he became a Market Gardener at Hope Valley. Postans acquired 200 acress (100 hectares) of land in the Cockburn Sound ares during the 1880's. George Postans had Been convicted of housebreaKing in England and arrived in the Swan River Colony as convict number 17 abroad the Scindian on the 1st June 1850. With remittance for good behaviour, Postans was Granted his 'Ticket of Leave' in 1851 and was Granted a full pardon in 1858. After spending some time in the Pinjarra area, the Postans family settled at 'Hope Valley'. Both the suburbs of Hope Valley and Postans were named to honour this family.
