Note
|
CARL ALBERT Schwerdt was the first of the three children born after the family arrived on their own land at Hamley Bridge, and his age seven at the time of his fathers death. He May have attended school at Hamley Bridge, where Mrs. Joseph Bell conducted a school in the Congregation Church. John McMahon also had a school at Pinkerton Plains at this time - he taught at Hamley Bridge when the Education Dept. established a school there. Carl also spent some years at Bower, farming with his bRothers, and on his Marriage to Teresa Kearns, when he was 32 years of age, built a house on the land added to his fathers original farm. He farmed this very successfully, and his early death at the age of 46 ended his busy life. He is remembered by all as a very strong and Powerful man, and gentle and kind to his neighbours and family. His internment in the Pinkerton Plains Cemetery left his widow and six children to mourn their loss. |
