"Friedrich WILHELM Scholz was born at Light Pass on 8th September, 1867. He is said to have walked over to New South Wales cutting Wood on the way to earn his food. Bill, as he was commonly known, had a very succcessful business career. He operated the hotel at Walla Walla for a short time before doing the same in Culcairn. He is responsible for the erection of the impressive two-storey hotel there which is still flourishing today. After a short time in Melbourne, he moved to Goulburn where he bought the Commercial (now called Goulburn) Hotel, and later the Royal Hotel, whose site is now occupied by Coles SuperMarket. A Bell hanging in the old Cobb and Co. Stables at the rear of the Commerical Hotel, was used to announce the departure and arrival of coaches, was donated to the Goulburn hospital by Bill. In 1927 he started an aero club in Goulburn and as president, donated a De Haviland Plane to the club. Two sons, Les and Russell, became pilots. Bill welcomed Amy Johnson at teh Goulburn aero club on her visit after flying solo from England. He died in Goulburn in 1934. His Marriage to Louise Thomas was blessed with the birth of seven children, four sons and three daughters. One son died in infancy. She died in Sydney in 1947. One son, Leslie, moved to Lackawanna, New York, where he died in 1972."
