He was re-elected in 1984 over Walter F. Mondale, by a popular vote of 54,450,603 to 37,573,671, and an electoral vote of 525 to 13. His successor, George Bush, was his vice-president during both terms. He was an actor before he became a public official. He was shot on March 30, 1981, by John W. Hinckley Jr, and recovered within two months. |
