Note
|
He won the close 1960 election over then vice-president, Richard Nixon, by a popular vote of 34,226,731 to 34,108,157, and an electoral vote of 303 to 219 (14 democratic electors and one republican elector voted for Virginia Senator, Harry F. Byrd). He was succeeded by his vice-president, Lyndon B. Johnson. Well remembered is the sentence "... ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country" in his inaugural speech. |
