Note

John Penny married Isabella ****** probably at the age of 16 in c1832. Regarding the Census for 1841 `HO 107 583 1 page 41. The address shown on the 1841 census is not clear but it is probably Lower Cambridge Street. At the time of the 1841 census John Penny age 30 (1811), occupation a Potato Dealer and married to Isabella age 25 (1815) with children James 9 (1832), Sarah 6 (1834) Isabella age 1 year (1840) .

In 1851 John Penny age 41 a greengrocer- Shopkeeper, and family were known from the Manchester & Salford Directory for 1851 to be resident at 44 Boundary Street East, C-on-M, and son James age 18 is known to be recorded as a shopkeepers helper. The 1851 census H107 2220 811 (?820 ) 17 is unreadable due to water damage.

The Census record for 1861 RG9 for John Penny has not been found. John's wife Isabella death at the age of 40 years was registered Dec 1856 Chorlton 8c 354; Isabella's death certificate gives cause of death, Fractured skull, and the Coroners Verdict due to Manslaughter. John's death at the age of 56 years was registered in the quarter ending March 1866 Manchester 8d 235, at the time he was probably living at 84 Medlock Street, Hulme, Manchester.

Note

The first note was from a tree of a Roy Pennill. I am not sure that his 2nd comment is correct as there is a family of a John Penny in Manchester with the children James, Sarah and Isabella of exactly the right ages compared to the 1841 census record. The wife if 1851 was named as Elizabeth . I believe Isabella and Elizabeth to be the same person. The parentage of Isabella is not proven but the baptism was the only one of an Isabella Butterworth in 1811.
