Came to Augusta at three years of age to live with his uncle Neh
emiah Flagg by whom he was educated in the schools in Augusta; w
as a clerk in his uncle'sstore until 1852, when he returned t
o Benton, and soon after went to Pennsylvania, where, in 1861, h
e assisted in raising Company K, 142nd Regiment P.V.,of which h
e was commissioned a lieutenant. Before he left the State he wa
spromoted captain. He fought in the first Fredericksburg battl
e. He was killed near the end of the third Day in the battle o
f Gettysburg. He was buriedin a grove where he fell, later rem
oved to Pittston Penn.
