Note

Coleman Boren married as his first wife, Malinda Keller, born i
n Rowan County,North Carolina. They had met at a dance in Unio
n County,Illinois, and weremarried there in 1830. Shortly ther
eafter, Coleman Boren joined the Mormonsand suffered the persec
utions endured by them in Missouri. He was appointedby Brigha
m Young as President of the Pisgah (Iowa) Branch of the Church a
ndcame to Utah in 1851, settling in Provo,Utah Valley. Here h
e died in 1858 after serving in the Indian wars. His second (po
lygamous) wife was Flora Maria Kinglsey, who was the great grand
mother of this writer (Kerry Ross Boren).
