"Colonel John Hynson, his son, was born in England. As a youn
g man he is on record as high sheriff of Kent, in which office o
f dignity and power his fatherhad rendered years of servive an
d in which Colonel Thomas Hynson, brother ofColonel John Hyso
n also distinguished himself in Talbot County.
Colonel JohnHynson was a member of the House of Burgesses fro
m Kent County from 1681 to1688. Although he included in h is d
ignities the offices of justice of the peace, and military comma
nder of the county of Kent, he served Church as wellas sate, a
s a vestryman of St. Paul's Parish. It was probably his close a
ssociation with the affairs of the Church that brought both rect
ors of old St.Paul's a wooing at the Hynson mansion. The Rev
. Stephen Bordley on October14 1702, claimed Anne Hynson for hi
s bride, and two years after his death when Rev. Alexander Willi
amson resPonded to the call from the Colonial Church, he promptl
y succeeded not only to the living, but also won the widow of hi
spredecessor, as is shown in the settlement of Stephen Bordley'
s estate.
