According to information supplied by John Butler (given him by W
m. Austin of P.O. Box 62, Laceyville, Pa18623 in January 1990
) Nehemiah took up land under the Conn. title in 1799,just eas
t of Reuben Wells homestead, but not long after located in Dimoc
k.In Litchfield Co. Harwintown Town census of 1790, there is a
nother Ezekiel Main. Either the Ezekiel in Bristol or the one i
n Harwiton could have been the father of Nehemiah.

August 6, 1802: At Wyalusing Mr. Nehemiah Main, accompanied by M
r Miles Bunnell, went into the wheatfield of the latter, where h
eespied a huge bear. With his trusty rifle...shot him.. and ad
vanced to closecomabt...the bear...bit him through the thigh i
n three places, and wounded him severely in the arm....he extric
ated himself...and succeded in dispatchingthe bear....Wilkes-Ba
rre Gazette
Wilkes-Barre...at that time included the area on the Wyalusing c
reek in what is now Sesquahanna Co. P.A. where the Mains and th
e Bunnellls lived. The present town of Wyalusing at the mouth o
f the Wyalusing creek is in Bradford township P>

Nehemiah Main was brother to Samuel, Ezekiel and Meachem who cam
e from the east in 1799 to 1801 to Sesquehanna Co, Pa. Nehemia
h made a clearing in 1801 where I. D. Baker later lived inMontc
alm and Nine Partners area. One of these brothers had Wm. Mai
n of N.Y. who married daughter of Dr. Rose who died age 66 in Fe
bruary 1842. Nehemiah took up title of land in Pa under Conn. t
itle in 1799 in Susquehanna just east of Reuben Miles in Dimock
. Nehemiah was first in what is now Bridgewater, but soon afte
r in Dimock.
