Note

Harriet Charlotte Rose Carr, was the daughter of
David Samuel Rose. The family was UEL, coming from The south wes
t part
of what later became Vermont. However, it appears that some of t
he
family went back (at least occasionally)to Vermont, as Harrie
t is listed
on Ontario censuses as US born. She was awidow when she marrie
d Hugh
Ross. Her first husband, Carr, appears to havebeen an American
. She
had at least 2 daughters with Carr, both of whom arelisted as b
eing born
in the US. Probably on the death of Carr, she returned to Canad
a where
most of her family was situated. Most of her brothers areliste
d as
being UEL, and many of the children were born at various place
s in Lower
Canada where the 'refugees' from Vermont fled: Sorel, St. Jean (
St.
Jean-sur-Richelieu), LaColle.
The very Biblical names of the Rose families
suggest that perhaps the Methodist influence came very strongl
y from the
Rose line. Also to be noted, is the relatively short lives of ma
ny of
the Rose line. Harriet herself died at 47 years of age.... altho
ugh the
cause is . Rosses who came from the Rose matrilineage, ha
d short
lives, compared to the Rosses who came before. Both Alexander an
d Hugh
lived to agood age, at a time when old age was not common; late
r Rosses
seemed to diein their 6th decade, or before.
