Assheton of Cuerden in Lancashire. He is said to have lived i
n Wakefield in 1724, when he purged the library collected by hi
s ancestors, by disposing of about 2000 old editions, all folios
, to the tobacconists. He died without issue, at Braithwaite ha
ll, 16th September 1754. His widow married Peregrine Wentwort
h of Weakefield, esq., last of the male line of the earl of stra
fford,who died in 1808 aged 87. He was for 44 years registra
r of the West ridingof Yorkshire.
On the death of Mrs. Wentworth, the Witton estates descended t
o the issue of her first husband's aungt, elder sister of Richar
d Witton, barrister, the purfchaser of the Lupset estates, viz:-
