The Minor Family of Somerset

Daniel, the fifth and youngest son, married Mary, daughter of An
thonye Dixsonof Halifax, butcher, and Sibell his wife. Anthony
e Dixson died in 1599, andhis widow married another butcher, Jo
hn Haldisworth of Halifax, who died in1621, leaving to his wife
's daughter, Mary Dickson, money to make her porcion100 pounds
, and also bed and bedding and a messuage and backside in Halifa
x, in occupation of John Smith, for life. Her brother, John Dic
kson, was thechief inheritor and residuary legatee. Daniel Dra
ke of Horley Greene, madehis with 6th April 1623 proved 7th Mar
ch 1626-7. He bequeated to his wife, Mary, her third of goods
, etc, to his 4 bothers, John thomas, Francis and Samuel 5 poun
d each, to his son John, a minor, a third and residue. He lef
t tohis brother Thomas, the interest in houses in Halifax, by w
ill of his aung Sibell Longbothom; to his cousin, Thomas Drake
, living with testator 20s; andto very servant also living wit
h him 12d a piece. His widow, Marie Drake, make her will (nuncu
pative) 15th February, proved 7th March 1626-7 She left her mot
her Sibill Holdworth 5 pounds a year for life, and released a le
ase she had from her, of a tenement in Halifax. She bequeathe
d to two children ofher sister Sibill 10 pounds to one and 7 t
o the other, to be paid by Mr. Horsfall, and to remain in the ha
nds of their uncle Abraham, and then to make itup to 20 pounds
. She appointed her son John Drake, executor and residuary lega
tee. A gravestone near the font, in Halifax parish Church, evid
ently belongs to this branch of the Drake family.
