ry 1557/8, William Lyster, Esq., and Christopher Metcalfe were p
arties to a deed conerning the Manor of Hartlynton; William Lyst
er seals a Ducy of Lancaster deposition with a sag's Head erased
; "William Lyster, Esq.,"and Bridget his wife sold a moiety o
f the Manor of Clayton to Hugh AndertonEsq., for 400 pounds, i

n 1562 he sold Swinden Hall to John Hartley. He acquired, wit
h Henry Ferrer, gent., the Manors of Grangemere and Gisburne, et
c. from Sir Henry Darcy and Katherine his wife, 13 Eliz., 1571
; the same year he and Ferrer conveyed to "Lawrence Lyster," hi
s second son, the capital messuage called "Lawhger Hall" (Lowe
r Hall, site of the present Gisburne House) in Gisburne, and lan
d lately bought of Sir H. Darcy (G.D., 9, 10, 12, 13). He d 158
2 bur. at Gisburne 4 Oct. will as "William Lyster of Thorneton
, Esquier," dated 1 Sep 1582 "to be buried in the parish churc
