Leonidas Marrs and Catherine Palmer met and became teen-aged fri
ends, and then lovers. During the latter part of the year 187
8 Catherine discovered that she was with child. Leonidas,bein
g told of this, decided that he didin't want to shoulder the res
ponsibilities of a husband and father and started thinking of wa
ys to get himself out of the situation. Leonidas though of hi
s cousin Warren, age 26 and stillsingle. Only they know how mu
ch dickering was done, but it was reported thatLeonidas did off
er his cousin fifty dollars if he would marry Catherine. The de
tails were worked out, Warrend did marry Catherine and Leonida
s went his own way, alonge. What if anything, Catherine had t
o say about this we never knew. Warren agreed to take Catherin
e as his wife but apparently; he did not agree to take his cousi
n's child into his home. All of the facts in thisstory indicat
e that Catherine went back to her mother's home to give birth t
o her first child (Hallie) and then left her there for her mothe
r and sisters to care for and raise. Then she went back to he
r husband Warren.
