mself, while suffering aterm of imprisonment in the utah penite
ntiary, for the crime of unlawful cohabitation, and sentenced o
n the 15th Day of February, 1887, for the term of 6months wit
h a fine of three hundred dollars and costs of court.
Isaac Brockbank, son of Isaac Brockbank and Elizabeth Mainwaring
, born July 13th, 1837 at Liverpool, England. In giving a sketc
h of my own history in this my 50th year, of course I have to de
pend greatly on my memory for facts as they have transpired an
d in doing so may not get the date of events always correctly, b
ut sHall endeavor to get them as near as I can. In commencing
, I think it proper to refer to my parents. My father was the e
ldest son of Daniel and Agnes Morris Brockbank, born at Under Ba
rrow County of Westmoreland,England, November 19th 1805, and wa
s raised in that locality until he attained man's estate. He fo
llowed an agricultural life, and made it an especial point to b
ea good farm hand, and particularly a good Plow Man for which h
e won many prizes at County Fairs that he attended during his ea
rly manHood. He took greatpride in referring to such events i
n his after life. However as he developedinto manHood, and bei
ng tired of the monotony of a farmer's life, he determined muc
h against the wishes of his mother (his father having died early
) and the other members of his family, to go to Liverpool. Afte
r maKing up his mind to t his, he made all the arrangements wit
h the young woman he had been paying his attentions to, that a
s soon as he got into a situation at Liverpooland a prospect o
f maKing a home, he would send for her, but alas for all human h
opes, he had been in Liverpool but a short time when this youn
g lady was taken sick and died. And tho he seemed to be prosper
ed after going to Liverpool, the sting of this breavement weighe
d heavily upon him and he was for sometime in despair.
He was always quite religiously inclined and early in lifebecam
e attached to the Wesleyan Methodists. After his arrival in Liv
erpool he became connected with that organization and was appoin
ted a class leaderamong that body. In his associations here, h
e became acquainted with the young lady who afterward became m
y mother. She w
