Moses Workman came to Logan County from lawrence Kentucky, wher
e he had livedfor a while between 1829 and 1834 Copyright by Do
die Elizabeth (Smith) Browning. Moses was the son of Joseph a
nd Phoebe (McMahon) Workman who lived inTazewell County,Virgini
a at the time of their deaths. (Circumstantial evidence)
Joseph Workman (second Generation and father of Moses, above), w
as the son of Abraham Workman. According to pennsylvania Archive
es, Series 5, Vol 1,he enlisted in the Chester County, Pennsylv
ania Regiment of Captain Paul Jackson. Acoording to this record
, Joseph was 5' 8" tall and of thin visage. Hegave his age a
s 21 years. The date was 6 May, 1758, and shows his place ofbi
rth as New Jersey. This record indicated that he was born circ
a 1736.
Moses and Elizabeth bought 100 acres in Burkes Garden in Tazewel
l County, Virginia on Muncy's Creek in 1802. There were severa
l lawsuits regarding thisland and they finally sold it in 181
6 and bought a different piece of land, containing fifty acres i
n 1817. This is were they were livibng when Elizabethdied, qui
te possibly in child birth with "Nelly" leaving Moses with six c
hildren, most quite young
