Will of Henry Hampton
In the name of God Amen.I Henry Hampton of the State of Nort
h Carolina and County of Surry being ofsound disposing mind an
d memory do this twenty first Day of November in the year of ou
r Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty one, make and ordai
nthis my last will and testament in manner and form following f
irst I will that my just debts be paid.
2nd I give unto my son Thomas Hampton all which he has here to f
ore received fro me. I give unto my son Henry Hampton all whic
hhe has here to fore received from me. I give unto the heirs o
f at law and the widow of my Deceased son William Hampton all wh
ich he has received from mealso a certain note on Abner Carmic
Hall for near two hundred Dollars with the Interest Already rece
ived there on being to me by said Carmicall Several years past w
hich said note I gave unto the possession of of Said William Ham
pton a few yearpas and Enclosed the said in nhote over to Said W
. Hampton forthe purpose of collection when ever it Should be p
racticable believing thatmy said Son William Hampton would be t
he last person to know when it would becollected and for the pu
rpose of the better enabling him to make the said Collection I f
or that purpose and for no other endorsed Said note over to Sai
d William Hampton I therefore give all my interest in note Wido
w and Childrenof Said William Hampton Deceased. I also give un
to my Daughter Abigail Benthal, one Negro man named George abou
t twenty five years of age which is in the possession of Said Ab
igail Benthal after her deceased, also I give unto myDaughter H
annah Allen wife of Jesse Allen one Negro Woman named Jemmay an
dher increase now int he possession of the said Hannah and Hess
e Allen to herthe Hannah and to her children after her decease
. Also I give unto my daughter Margaret Allen wife of Richard A
llen a young Negro woman of brigh color named Edy now in the pos
sessiof of said Margaret and Richard Allen to her and the childr
en of said Margaret after her Decease and further more as to m
y Daughters, Abigail, Hannah and Margaret as above mentioned I g
ive them what they have here to fore received from me besides th
e Negroes as Respectfully mentioned I will and bequeath unto m
y sons Thomas Hampton Henry Hampton and JohnB. Hampton my trac
t of land whereon I reside.
I will unto my son John B. Hampton a Negro boy named Lawson duri
ng the life of my said Son John after his decease to his heirs b
ut if he should die leaving not Children then Said Negroboy Law
son to go back to the rest of my chilfren. I also give my son J
ohnone feather bed and furniture. And to my other Negroes whi
ch I have my desire and will is they they be put into two lots t
o be valued by two disinterested persons who may be selected b
y my Executor for that purpose and Such of my children as may wi
sh to take at Such valuation todo so but there should bemore o
f my Children wishing to have than there is lots of negroes an
d thereby Conflicting claims arise in that case my Executor sha
ll, or determine whomay take said lot of Negroes.
And as to the rest of my estate my will is thatit be sold upo
n the usual credit I will and bequeath unto my grand childrenT
o wit, Sarah Andres, Polly Fautch, children of my Daughter Susan
nah Whitehaed and William Ladd son of my daughter Theodosia Lad
d forty Dollars each tobe paid out of the sale of my Estate an
d the valuation of the Negroes I further will that Where as a s
mall legacy of ten Dollars and twenty cents each isdue to Ann J
ames, Abigal James, and Elizabeth Hutcheson Heirs of William Bea
vers Deceased from the Estate of said Beavers that my Executor p
ay over thesame where siad Heirs may demand it to be paid out o
f my Estate that is thevaluation of the Negroes and the Amoun
