James Taylor, father of President of the Church was deprived o
f an inheritance from his father Edward Taylor becaue of the Eng
lish law that gave the estate to the oldest son. However, an un
cle on his mother's side, William T. Moon, bequeated to him a sm
all estate in Hale, Westmoreland, England. Though James was dep
rived of any share of his father's estate, he acquired a good En
glish education learning Latin and Greek languages and the highe
r branches ofmathmatics. James worked for the Government unti
l John his son was 11 yearsold. Then the family moved to the
ir estate in Hale, Westmoreland, England.This was the most bea
utiful part of England and had a great influence on their son Jo
hn. In 1830 James moved his family to Toronto, Canada. John st
ayed to sell their property and joined them later.
