Note

(Son of William and Elizabeth Ward). Baptized July 7 1692 (see p
age 165 copyof St. Stephen's Register at MD Historical societ
y in Baltimore). He held the tracts of land called "Neihgbor'
s Grudge" (Woodlawn); "Locust thicket" which is opposite St.
Stephen's Church and other property. His wife had from herfath
er a tract called "Spernon's Delight".

l 30, 1723 until 1725. Vestryman 1727, 1728, 1729. Church Warde
n 1733 (See copy of St. Stephen's Register pages 57, 80 to 92, 1
02, 110, 111 and 116).
One of the Justices of the Quorum of the County Court march 3, 1
726 to 1730 (see Archives of Maryland at MHS, volume marked "Com
missions 1726 to 1786" -- proper date)
He was married by the Rev. RichardSewell, Minister of St. Step
hen's Church, on March 25, 1717, to Susanna Veazey, spinster, da
ughter and only child of William and rosamun Veasey and granddau
ghter of John and Martha Veasey of "Cherry Grove" (Copy of St. S
tephen'sRegister page 8). Susanna was born Jan 20, 1696.
He died May 1734. His willdated April 26, 1734, is recorded i
n office of Register at Elkton, Cecil County, Md in Volume AA pag
e 280 and was proved May 25, 1734. He devised "Neighbor's Grudg
e" or Woodlawn to his eldest son William and "Locust Thicket" t
o his son John and "Spernon's Delight" to Nathaniel and his dwel
ling plantation to his wife. Several temporary interests were c
reated in this property but itwent finally as above stated. I
t is not quite clear when he lived at Woodlawn in that he was li
ving there at the time of his death. His wife was an only chil
d and he may have lived on part of "Spernon's Delight" for a tim
e. His eldest son was very young at this time and his eldest da
ughter only sixteen year old. He however held all his father'
s property and he has been styled"Second of Woodlawn"
On 20 April 1721 John Ward of CE County, son of William Ward, lat
e of said county, deceased, for the natural affection he has fo
r hisbeloved brother William Ward of said county, Carpenter, an
d also for 20s., conveyed 50 acres where the said William Ward t
he son now lives, part of a tract called Harman's Mount. Said l
and was purchased 13 March 1675 by his deceased father from Corn
elius Vinson and Elinor. Also another tract formerly taken up b
y Thomas Rumsey called the Indian Range. [CELR 3:142]
John Ward, CE County, died leaving a will dated 26 Apr 1734 and pro
ved May 1734 to wife Susannah, executratrix, use of dwelling pla
ntation. To daughter Alice, tract LocustThickett until son Joh
n arrives of age of 18. To daughter Susannah, plantation wher
e Thomas Watts now lives until son William come to age of 18. T
o daughter Sarah, tract Henry and Ward where Thomas Marcer now l
ives until son William comes to age of 18. To daughter Rachel ?
