"Stephen (3) son of Stephen (2) was born in 1750, married Patien
ce Young of York, and died at his home in Gorham in 1824. He re
presented Gorham in the Massachusetts General Court for eight ye
ars; was for several years senator forCumberland county, and ju
dge of the Court of Common Pleas from 1797 to 1811."He was a f
ine looking gentleman, with the bearing of the old school; was e
rect, portly, rather taller than the average, had a strongly mar
ked face, and his hair was tied behind in a 'club' with black ri
bbon. The the close of his lilfe he wore the old style dress, k
nee breeches, a long waistcoat, and white top-boots. He was a m
an of sterling qualities of mind and heart, great integrity, an
d sound common-sense."
