n a case at York 13 Henry VIII., 1521/2, against William Conyer
s of Marske and Eleanor his wife, concerning land in Rymington
, Settle, Arnclioffe, and Swynden. He was also in a case concer
ning land in Medehoppe, Rymington, and Arnoldbyggyng, inCraven
, 1522/3. (De Banco Rolls.) In the latter year a fine was pas
sed between him and Thomas Medehope, gent., and Elizabeth his wi
fe, and William Medehope, son and heir of Thomas, and Joanna hi
s wife, and Roger Medhope, for lands in Medehope, Rlymington an
d arnoldbyggnyn. Will dated 27 July 1539, pr.at York, 3 June 1
540, metnions Christopher Lyster," son and heir, Helen, dau. "La
urence Lyster" Laurence Lyster," his son and exor., to be bur. a
t Gisburne; Christopher Lyster" a witness. He had dispensatio
n 1491 (Browsholme MSS) to marry Elizabeth Banastre of Swinden (
his cousin) "as appears by an award dte 7 H VII., and with her h
e had Swinden and other lands in Lancs." (Browsholme Pedigree)
. By her he had issue (besides John, d.s.p.) two sons and tw
o daus.:-
Stirkhouse is a very nice old house in Gisburne township, abou
ta mile and a quarter from Gisburne Park. A gateway with fin
e pillars surmounted by larghe balls, which evidently once suppo
rted Jacobean wrought-iron gates, admits to the courtyard, or fr
ont garden. The house has gables and stone-mullioned windows
. There is at present (1912) an ancient studded Hall-door, wit
h some good old doors to some of the rooms In the Hall is a fin
e Jacobean staircase, and a great stone arch over the fireplace
. The house is being now completely renovated and enlarged fo
r the occupation of Mr. Ormerod, the Master of the Hounds.
