Lola May North Taylor, a daughterof John Addison North and Mar
y Park Brockbank North, was born on December 12, 1892, and spen
t her early childHood at 3730 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City,Ut
ah. Her first school Days began in the old North School, and am
ong herfondest childHood emmories are the many enjoyable hour
s she wpent coasting down Robinson's Hill (39th South) on a slei
gh built by her father. In April, 1902, she moved to Bingham Ca
nyon, where her father hauled ore from the minesdown to the rai
l terminal for shipment to the smelter, and again these were enj
oyable Days. Fond memories of the exciting schooner rides dow
n the canyon and the and the activity-filled Independence Day ce
lebrations are still bright. Her father moved the family back t
o Salt Lake in 1907, and here she andher husband-to-be, Phili
p T. Taylor, graduated from the 8th grade at the Roosevelt Schoo
l. She subsequently graduated with high honors from the Granit
e High School and obtained her teaching certificate through stud
ies at the University of Utah and the Utah State University, lat
er teaching for 7 years inthe Salt Lake City schools.
On Jun 30, 1920, she was married in the Salt LakeTemple, and o
n December 8, 1923, she and her husband moved into the home wher
e she still lives at 4450 Highland Drive (SLC); a home largely b
uilt withtheir own hands and where their three children, Ruth
, Glenn, and LaVe were reared. During this time, and in additio
n to her role as housewife and mother,many hours and Days wer
e spent in the service of the Church, including a twoyear stak
e mission, which was served with her husband.
