Note

I was born in the township of Lyman in the county of Grafton an
d state of NewHampshire on the 30th of March 1813. I was the t
hird son of Boswell Lyman and Martha Mason. The names of my gra
nparents on my father's side, were EliasLyman and Ruth Griswold

= My mother's parents were Perez Mason and Martha Barney.
I was born on a small homestead belonging to my mother's parents
, somy infancy knew not the blessing of a paternal home.
In something less than two years subsequent to my birth, my fath
er left on a journey with one of my mother's brothers, for the p
urpose of mending their fortunes in the West; my uncle's name wa
s. He died in Utica in the State of New York, leaving my fathe
r to pursue his doubtful way alone.
