It is listed twice,once wi th no date. Marriage also listed in American Marriage Records be fore1699: Fairbanks, Jonas and Lydia Prescott, 28 May 1658, Lan caster, Mass. Marriage date confusion possibly result of publishing of intent, publishing of banns, and actua l ceremony. Beckwith erroneously gives birth as 1623 at Dedham , Essex, Massachusetts. Dedham is in Norfolk County, though th e original county may have been Essex, there were subsequent changes, and the Fairbanks didnot arrive in Americ a prior to 1623. The town of Dedham was not formed untilthe sig ning of the Dedham Covenant that began after 1633. Dedham Englan d isin County Essex, but that is not the place of birth. Beckwith also gives thedeath as 10 feb 1676 cor rectly, but gives the place as Dedham, Essex, Massachusetts, whi le it is clear he died in Lancaster in the Indian attack on tha tVillage, which resulted in the abandoning of the settlement for some years thereafter. He lists no ancestry for J onas. Beckwith correctly gives the marriage date and place, an d the death time and place in notes, though incorrectlyin the f amily group.
