He was born in Leiden at the Puritan community, and hisfamily m
oved back to London England in 1619 when he was 3 so he grew u
p there. He sailed to the colonies on the "Anne in 1623 at ag
e 9. He was given land on the North shore of the Eele River in D
uxbury Mass by his step father Gov. Bradford on 6 Oct 1636, wher
e he was selected surveyor in 1640 and constable in 1641. He se
rved on a Grand Jury there in 1644. He was selected Ensign (sta
ndard bearer) there on 7 Jul 1646 and served until 6 Ap 1653. H
e waselected representative in 1647 and served until 1656 and a
gain from 1658 till 1669. He was Granted a wine licence on 7 Ju
ne 1648. He was elected Treasurer of Plymouth Colony on 7 Jun
e 1655 and served until 1679. He was appointed commisary Office
r of a 100 man force agains the Awashouk Indians on 8 July167
1 and then elected Assisstant Governor of Plymouth in 1672 and s
erved inthis capacity until 1678. His will was tated 27 feb 16
