Note

Samuel was of Irish decent, per James K. Steele, Cameron, MO.Bel
ieved to havebeen born in KY. Subsequently moved to Butler Co.,
OH where he married Sarahin 1821. It is believed that their fir
st child Eliner was born in OH in 1822but not yet confirmed. Th
e
otherchildren were believed born in Rising Sun, Dearborn (now Oh
io) County,Indiana. He is on the 1850 US census living in Caldwe
ll
County, MO close to Mirabile, with wife Sarah and children Willi
am, James, John,and Mary. His occupation is listed as farmer.
The STEELE REPORT ofJanuary 1997, published by Fred Mieswinkle,
512 Seneker, Mount Vernon, MO 65712 listed Samuel's
siblings. Theyare:

  1. John, married Mary PORTER (called Aunt Polly) at Wabash, IN.T
    heir children were: William, John (Iowa), Sam (a Captain in
    theUnion Army - Wabash), Susan, Elizabeth, and Hugh (IN).
  2. William lived in Wabash, IN. Married a JOHNSON, children: Mar
    yAnne married a HUNTER, they had two children, Jim and Mary.
    Marymarried a GIDLEY. Joe was a bachelor;Margaret; Elizabeth ma
    rried aSTONER. Susan married a CARVER in North Missouri.
  3. "Old Colonel", married, had one child. This wife died and her
    emarried.They had one son, William.
  4. Anne married a SCOTT and lived in Cincinnati, OH. An AnnSTEEL
    E/Richard SCOTT marriage was recorded to have occurred on
    22December. 1814, Ref: "Marriages, Butler Co. OH: 1803-1823 by R
    obert D.Craig, LDSLibrary SLC 997.175 V25c.
    Note: The "Report" listed six names of which John and William se
    emedto have been repeated. They were combined in the above list.
    Also inthe same issue, an Ann Steele was shown as a daughter o
    f Samuel onpage 1 in addition to Anne having been his sister o
    n page 2.
    Bothmarried a SCOTT and both lived in Cincinnati, OH. Both are l
    ikely thesame person, but herrelationship to Samuel is in quest
    ion.
    Mostlikely she was his sister.
