lled "CountyGenealogies and Pedigrees of Hertfordhisre Families
," colleged by William Berry, has been kindly furnished by Will
iam Sherwood, Esq., of Fairfiel, Ct. It is part of the Record f
ound in the above named book of the family of John Baker. It le
aves scarece a doubt in the mind of the Compiler, that the wif
eof Thomas Nash, the emiGrant to New Haven, was Margery, daught
er of NicholasBaker, since we have no record of any other Thoma
s Nash coming to New England

n Mass in 1635. Removed to Hull and thence to Scituate, were h
e was adorned as Pastor, serving in that capacity until his deat

The maternal lines for four generations were Pilgrims. Nichola
s Baker, son of John,married Mary Hodgtes ("Hodges Family of Ne
w England" by John D. Hodges, 3rdedition, 1896, says Hedge, Hed
ges, Hodge, Hodges, Hogge, Hogg, Hodgkins, Hodgskin, Hodgskine
, Hodgekine, Hodgekines, Hoskine, Hoskin, Hoskines and Hotchkis
s are the same name given by different families.) They settle

are Cove. Also real estate in Hull. Nicholas Baker married hi
s first wife in England at Scituate 1661. He married his secon
d wife in 1662. Nicholas Baker was the first Deputyfrom Hinma
n in the General Court of the Colony 1636-38. "Lincoln's Histor
yof Hingham" credits Nicholas Baker with 8 children and a possi
ble 9th. Nicholas Baker was a genuine Puritan. He wwas one of t
he first Ministers of Scituate in whose memory the Daughters o
f the American Revolution placed a BronzeTablet. This Tablet w
as placed on the Lot of the first Meeting House by theChief Jus
tice Cushing Chapter of Scituate, 1912.
