Michael Lister, or Lyster, sixth son, of whom presently
Martin Lister, or Lyster, of Thorpe Arnold and of Middle Claydon
, Bucks; he must be the Capt Martin Lister who was sent with let
ters on Her Majesty's service to Sir John Norreys, General of th
e Queen's forces in Brittany in 1593, the Privy Council writin
g to Sir Joh, "Wee are torecomende this bearer Captaine Marti
n Lyster unto you to be preferred to anyplace you mai think fi
t for him, the rther b ecause he hathe bin, as he informeth us
, coronell of your horse troope, and one of those taken at the l
atedefeate in Britayne, and hath not as yet paid his ransom.
" He went to Ireland in command of a company in or before Marc
h 1594/5, and fought in Co. Galway, etc., M.P. for the borough o
f Clitheroe 1603-21. He (19 July 1644) settledupon Michael, Ma
rtin, and William, sons of his nephew Sir Martin Lister, hisman
or of Winterbourne, Yorks., with the exception of certain parcel
s of the same settled on the children of his nephew, Sir Willia
m Lister, one-third of the manor being settled on Dame Susan, wi
fe of Sir Martin, for her life, with remainder to the aforesai
d sons of Sir Martin. He m Dorothy (Pigot) Keble, daug Robert P
igot of Colwich and widow of Thomas Keble of Newbottle, Northant
s (by whom she had a dau. Jane, who m. Richard Pigot). Marti
