Fawcett, Major-General Sir William [1727-1804] KCB. Born into th
e Lister family at Shibden Hall, son of William Faucittand Mart
ha, the eldest daughter of james Lister. In 1757, he translate
d Marshal Saxe's Memoirs of the Art of War. In 1760, he famousl
y announced the Victory of Warburg to George II in German, and a
s a reward, he was promoted toLieutenant Colonel. He became Co
mmander in Chief of the Britis Army.
