(Son of Robert Tillotson a clothier. Born at Haugh End in Sower
by. Educated at Clare Hall, Camb., of which college he was elect
ed a Fellow in 1651.In 1663 he became rector of Keddington i
n Suffolk, a position he resigned on being chosen preacher to th
e Society of Lincoln's Inn. Afterwards made Dean of Canterbur
y and Prebendary of St. Paul's, enchanging the deanery later fo
r that of St. Paul's. Archbishop of Canterbury 1691. He marrie
d in 1664 Elizabeth, daughter of Dr. French and niece of Olive
r Cromwell (( Crabtree, p 287)).
