Note

Sarah and Frederick were second cousins. Mary Day, John Mortloc
k III's mother-in-law, was sister to Elizabeth Day (who died i
n 1813 aged 81) the wife ofJoshua Finch. and to Esther (1720) w
ho married in 1739 Mr. George Dunch, a connection of Oliver Crom
well. Another sister married the unfortunate AldermanPurchas w
ho, after a bumpy rida as John Mortlock's ally, committed suicid
ein 1833. One of Sarah Mortlocks' first cousins, the daughter
, who died unmarried in 1809, of William Finch of Birmingham, wa
s a granddaughter of JosephPriestley by William's marriage in 1
786 to Joseph's daughter Sarah.
Sarah lived in to her 90's and was living in Little Thurlow in t
he 1830's. Latterly she seems to have lived in Little Abington..
... she also appears to have finally lodged with her divorced da
ughter Elizabeth Sarah (ex-Rawlins) in lodgingsin St. Martin'
s London, run by a Samuel Clark.
Sarah (Finch) Mortlock wasclearly what toDay might be calle
d a "wild child" and a strong believer in Girl Power. She wa
s a petite and very pretty girl and was the toast of Cambridge.
