ren xxx pound to three preachers x pound per annum to Mr. Boys t
he present preacher during his aboad. She gave to her poore may
d servant part of her goods and x pounds in mony. She with he
r sisterHelen Hopkinson bought ye soyle and built the Almes-how
ses next the Church for 20 poore widowes. She gave to Jo. Favou
r, vicar of Halyfac 1 pound and mad him one of her executors i
n turst, besyds many good deeds in her life tyme,for whome we
e are all bound to prayse God, who ever make us thankful. amen
The report of the Pious uses commission in 1619, gives further i
nformation as follows:--
"Item, we fine that Jane, Crowther, late of Hallifax, did by he
r last will, bearing the date the 18th Day of January, 1613, giv
e unto Dr. Favour and others, as ffeoffes in trust and their hei
res for ever, one Annuityor yearly rent of eight pounds, whic
h shee had latery pruchased of one Mr. Pudwy of Armefurth, out o
f his whole demains there, which shee willed should beemploye
d for a towards one schoole and schoole master, who shall teac
h thechildren of the poorest people of the towne of Halifax, t
o read, and learnetheir catechisme, and we (doe) finde that the
ir is 52 pouns of the said rentsbehind besides a great deal o
f charges spent in sueing for the same.
