Amos Hillier, Dec 15 1883- Jul 29 1969 was the first child of Ma
rk Henry Hillier and Hannah King. He grew up in Muddy Hole, Lam
aline, and lived all his life there. He married three thimes, L

y three children lived to adultHood. Hariiet, Frederick and Mar
k. Two daughters, Elsie and Virginia died before their 12th bir
thDays and son Alfred died tragically in a fall from his mother'
s arms, agedone year. Amos suffered the loss of an eye whil
e workmen were busy puttingtar on the roof of his house. Ther
e was no medical treatment but he did acquire a glass eye in lat
er years, which always brought squeals from his grandchildren wh
en he would casually remove it. He shared his house with his so
nMark whose first wife, Violet Woodland, died in childbirth i
n 1942. Mark'ssecond marriage to Susanna Bonnell produced fiv
e children before they moved on to Fortune. The last grandchil
d born in that house, Roy Hillier, became the owner. His secon
d wife, Ellen Lawrence was the only grandmother Hillier Icoul
d remember. She had a huge coleus plant on the Kitchen table wh
ich washer pride and joy. Amos' third wife, Alice Mary Bonnell
, outlived him. Shewas a very kind soul who had no children i
n her four marriages. She had a headstone placed on my grandfat
her's grave but decided not to be buried besidehim: she rests w
ith her first love, Robert Hepditch. (Violet Hilllier Hann)
