John North came to Boston on the ship Susan and Ellen 1635. H
e was an original proprietor and settler of the town of Farmingt
on Ct1653, which was an offshoot from the Church of Rev. Thoma
s Hooker of Hartford. He married Hannah, daughter of Thomas Bir
d and he had two sons John and Samuel who with their father wer
e included in the 84 original land owners of Farmington.
Progenitor of this branch of the North family. John North lef
t London, England on the "Susan and Ellen" and landed in Bosto
n on Apr 16, 1635.He was Granted three acres of land in Ipswic
h conn. where he remained for adecade. He married Hannah Bird

mington Connecticut and his descendents by Dexter North, Washing

In the English family there is a tradition that the first Nort
h entered England with William the Conqueror and married his dau
ghter. Actually aRobert North married Alice Harcourt who wa
s a descendent of "Robert the Strong", who was with William th

orable Lorde North which John was borne this third Day of Januar
y last past. Date would be 3 Jan 1611/12 converted.
From "Genealogical Noted on the Founding of New England" by Erne
st Flagg the following: He came in the ship "Susan and Ellen" f
rom London to Boston when he was 20 years old, was a proprierto
r and one of the first settlers of Farmington. His home lot o
f 3/4 acre, which he bought of John Steele, was situated near th
e North end of Farmington St. Inventory of his estatetaken Fe
b 12, 1691, 224 pounds 11 shillings.
May also be the John who wentto Ireland, had a son named Rodge
r who had 3 sons in turn names, Joseph, Rodger and Caleb, who ma
rried Jane Eckerty and came to American in 1729, see Caleb Nort
