Amos Allen entered the Revolutionary War at the age of 15, wit
h his father,Jonathan, who was killed. Amos was also in the wa
r of 1812 and was Commodoreon his own ship which was seized b
y the British. He and his men were impounded and because he ref
used to help drill British recruits he was banished tothe Islan
d of Jamaica and forced to work in the sugar mills with the nati
ves. One Day a negro worker fell into a vat of boiling sugar an
d the overseerignored the accident and poured the mess into a h
ogsHead to ship to America.Amos marked the barrel and later as
ked a negro to hilp him and they rolled it into the sea. Releas
ed at the end of the war (1815), he came to North Bergen, N.Y. a
nd lived with his daughter, Elizabeth until his death. He recei
ved a pension paid in gold and was able to help his family finan
cially. He isburied at a crossorads called Sheepskin Corners
. He owned land in Salisbury, Connecticut, but while he was in prison p
eople built houses on it and he couldn't pay, so he lost the lan
