"James Lister, second son of the above Samuel, born May 11th167

my, Japhet, Phoebe, and Joseph
As far as the author has been able to find out, John Issott, o
f Horbury, and brotherof the above Mary Issott, entered Frankla
nd's Academy to prepare for the Nonconformist Ministry, and wa
s a student there along with Oliver Heywood's two sons, John an
d Eliezer. He subsequently became assistant to Mr. Frankland bo
th as a preacher and teacher. His ordination took place at Rich
ard Mitchell's in Craven, July 8th, 1678. The persons conductin
g the service being Mr. Frankland, Mr. Heywood, and Mr. Joseph D
awson.
He subsequently, however, leftEngland on account of the intoler
ance exercised against Nonconformist Ministers, an excommunicati
on having previously been issued against him. In the year 1703
, we find that a certificate of absolution was Granted, and wa
s forwarded from York, to Mr. James Lister, his borther-in-law
, who was then residing at, and was the owner of Shibden Hall es
tates. The following is a translation of the indulgence:-
