a Stewart Wadsworth: Omer (Om, as we called him) was our family
's "hero" Som and Ethel Grainger Stewart lived right up the lo
t from us and really gook good care of ourfamily. When Om wa
s out of town I would stay with Ethel at night. She would set t
he table for supper just like we were having a banquet, and he
r milkwould be in a pretty pitcher. Then she would braid her h
air and put it in abun. She had a small daughter named Hortens
e, who was my pride and joy. The three of us would sleep in th
e same bed. Hortense called me "Setsa". Onetime she had a lit
tle bag of candy and she kept sharing it with me. She hadtwo p
ieces. They were for her Daddy, but finally she said, "oh, Sets
, it'sO.K. He wouldn't wany any anyway" At Christmas time we m
ade gifts for certain folks we like. It was half a walnut shel
l stuffed with fabric and tied with a ribbon. It would be tie
d to a curtain. I gave one to Ethel and I can just see i hangin
g there for a long time. Om and Ethel were so good and tookgoo
d care of our family. (Theresa's father David Brinton Stewart d
ied whenshe was only five.) Om took a special interest in my br
other Viv. (Viv was seven at his father's death). In fact that i
s who Viv went to Calif. to live with to work and then Viv als
o bought their home there in Alamo for Mama. Omdrove the mai
l and was active in all community affiars.
