e came to Boston as a young man and became a Freeman in 1634. R
epresented Boston in the General Court. He was wounded Aug 2 16
75, in an engagement with the Indians while commanding a large c
ontingent of cavalry during King Philip's War. The fight was fo
ur or five miles from Brookfield. Hedied of his wounds 17 Day
s later. He left Massachusetts with his father andmother. Ann
e Hutchinson, because of religious differences, going to Rhode I
sland, but remained only briefly. He returned to England, marri
ed, returnedto Massachusetts and took possession of landed porp
erty acquired there by his family. There he protested against t
he death penalty for Quakers who returned to the colony after ba
nishment. He also defended the Baptists in their problems wit
h colonial authorities. Roots: Edward Hutchinson, admitted Firs
t Church of Boston 5 Oct 1634. Came to Ma. 4 Sep 1633 with Joh
