Utah Pioneer of 1847 Dies in S.L.
"Angeline Bennion Spencer, 87 a pioneer of 1847 andthe widow o
f George M. Spencer, prominent pioneer legislator and educator,
,died at her residence, 809 Simpson Avenue, yesterDay of natura
l causes incident to advanced age. "Funeral Services will be he
ld tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the Forest Dale ward chapel, folloed b
y burial in the City Cemetery. Friends may call at the residenc
e tonight and tomorrow prior to the service.
"Mrs. Spencer was born March 16, 1847 at Garden Grove, Iowa, th
e daughter of John andEsther Wainwright Bennion. The family ca
me to Utah the same year, arrivingin October of 1847. They set
tled in Taylorsville where Mrs. Spencer living until 1913, whe
n she moved to Salt Lake. Her husband was a member of the terri
torial legislature and a prominent early Day school teacher. Mr
s. Spencerhas been active throughout her life in Church Work, a
nd for the several years past has been a regular attendant at th
e old folks outings and excursions."She is survived by two son
s, Mahone Spencer, Salt Lake, and Raymond Spencer, Taylorsville
; three daughters, Mrs. E. R. Morgan, Salt Lake, Mrs. F. M. Abbo
tt, Ogden and Hortense Spencer, Salt Lake. 14 grandchildren an
d the following brothers and sisters: Israel Bennion, Vernon; Ha
rden Bennion and MiltonBennion, Salt Lake; David Bennion Afto
n Wyoming; Owen Bennion Mt., Emmons, Archie Bennion, Granger; Mr
s. Zina B. Cannon, Salt Lake and Mrs. Ida Chase, Nephi."
