Note

As to John Mortlock's daughters, Eliza was in 1815, at Great Abi
ngton, married off to Dr. John Kaye. She had to wait until sh
e was 34 for this fulfilment. Kaye was a very hot property, hav
ing been Senior Wrangler and First Chancellor's Prizeman, then R
egius Professor of Divinity and then, at only 32 yearsof age, M
aster of Christ's College which he vigorously reformed. Bisho
p successively of Bristol and Lincolon (where hRutland influenc
e behind him as well as his formidable brain he did not become a
n archbishop is a mystery. Kaye was a pet of his father-in-la
w and was warmly mentioned in his will. He and Eliza's one so
n W.J.F. Kaye was later (unsurprisingly) Archdeacon of Lincoln a
nd their three daughters all married parsons.
