Note

Violet Hann recollects: Dinal was a lady of many talents; midwi
fe to many who could not afford the trip to the h ospital, as we
ll as the business Head ofthe family. She made most of the dec
isions for the family and took care ofseveral of her grandchild
ren, including Vioet her g-daughter by her son Edgarand Elizabe
th 'Bessie' Bonnell. Violet married Roland Hann, my husband's o
lder brother. 'Uncle' Gus was a quiet man, always pleasant bu
t not a greattalker. They boarded at least one school teacher
, a young man whom 'Aunt' Dinah had great hopes for a match wit
h Emma but, alas, it was not to be 'Uncle"gus died in 1963 an
d 'Aunt" Dinah stayed on in the house until she decided it was t
ime to enter a retirment home in Grand Bank about 1975. she di
ed there in 1978.
One of our teachers kep us back after school for some trivialma
tter long since forgotten but he did not know a mother's fury un
til he met an angry 'Aunt' Dinah at the door. She was incense
d that her Emma Mae waskept behind for someone else's foolishne
ss! We were never kept behind againin high school.
I remember a helicopter landing one Day on what the pilot though
t was a public piece of land but it belonged to 'Aunt' Dinah wh
o told himin no uncertain terms to move his contraption.
