Captain Thomas Poole, Charles "Chat" Bennets father-in-law, wa
s lost at sea while sailing the schooner, Dorothy Lake down thro
ugh Langdale Channel, or Langly Reach as the local seaman terme
d it, on August 30, 1924. She had been returning from Sdney lad
en with coal. Usually most schooners carried a crew ofsix or s
even but Dorothy Lake was crewed by only three for this voyage
. According to records, she was the smallest ern schooner buil
t in the Maritimesand was built in Fortune in 1911 at a mere 23
.8 tons and 63 feet in length.When the Dorothy Lake sank, Cap
t Poole was washed overboard and drowned in the mishap. Charle
